Construction is where the price of a bag is decided. This is the sequence every Nickino piece passes through.
Pattern
Each shape starts as a paper pattern, adjusted by hand until the proportion is right in three dimensions rather than on a drawing. Panels are then cut so that seam lines fall where the bag needs support.
Stitch
Seams are sewn on industrial machines by makers who have run them for years. Stitch length and thread weight are matched to the material so the seam holds without cutting into it.
Edge and finish
Edges are finished by hand — the slowest step, and the one most visible when a bag is used daily.
Hardware
Zips, rings and fixings are set and tested by hand. Hardware specifications are published per product as they are verified.
Check
Every finished piece is inspected against the same standard: seam alignment, symmetry, edge finish, hardware action and how the bag stands when empty.
